AbbVie has launched the AbbVie Immunology Scholarship, which is designed to provide financial support for exceptional students living with inflammatory diseases*, including psoriasis or hidradenitis suppurativa (HS), as they pursue their higher education goals. Our hope is that this scholarship will further empower patients to reach their educational goals.
March, 2015: At the annual meeting of the American Academy of Dermatology, held in San Francisco, a Forum devoted to the condition took place. Speakers addressed the issues of causes, medical and surgical treatments. An additional Hidradenitis Suppurativa Symposium is scheduled to take place in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada in June as part of the World Congress of Dermatology meeting.
March 2013: Members of the largest, national dermatology organization, the American Academy of Dermatology meet each Spring to discuss current trends and new research in all aspects of dermatologic care. It is the most widely attended meeting in the United States, and attracts physicians from all over the globe.
April, 2014: At the annual meeting of the American Academy of Dermatology, an update concerning the causes, medical and surgical treatments for hidradenitis was presented. The general meeting was attended by over 8,000 dermatologists from world-wide locations.
As many patients know, much hidradenitis surgery, including CO2 laser excision and marsupialization, is not reimbursed at an appropriate rate by insurance companies. The poor reimbursement has led many physicians to avoid caring for patients with HS, and prompted the HS Institute to become a fee-for-service provider wherein no insurance plans are accepted. We continue to work with most insurance plans in our efforts to facilitate insurance coverage, primarily through a reimbursement system for services provided.
